Home Care Cost Per Hour in Pasadena: What Shapes the Rate

Home care cost per hour is the first thing most families ask about, and the honest answer is that it depends on the care, not on a single posted number. Right at Home Pasadena does not publish an hourly rate. After a free in-home assessment, we give you an individual quote built around your household.

Below: why rates differ between agencies, what goes into your quote, and how billing and payment work.

Home care costs per hour: why agencies differ

Two agencies can quote very different hourly numbers for what looks like the same help. The usual reasons are general to the industry, not specific to us:

  • The scope of careCompanionship and household help are a different job from hands-on personal care.
  • Hours and scheduleHow many hours, how often, and at what times all change the rate.
  • What the rate includesAn agency's rate typically covers more than the caregiver's wage, such as payroll costs, liability insurance and the office team that plans and supervises care.
  • Local labor costsOne published estimate (PayingForSeniorCare.com) puts the average California home care rate at about $36 per hour. That is a general market figure, not our rate.

That is why comparing one hourly number with another tells you little until you know what each one covers.

How Right at Home Pasadena sets your rate

Your cost is shaped by three things: the hours of care, how often visits happen, and the services you need. We do not give a rate over the phone before we understand the situation.

The first assessment is free. A staff member visits the home to understand what your loved one and your family need. After that visit you receive a quote based on what you actually need.

If two people who live together, such as a couple, are cared for by one caregiver, a discounted rate applies. We do not publish the discount amount, so ask about it during your consultation.

We serve Pasadena, West Covina, Covina and nearby San Gabriel Valley communities, as well as Los Angeles, Glendale, Azusa, Rancho Cucamonga and San Bernardino. See our service areas for details. To see what the hours might cover, read about personal care and senior in-home care.

Elder care cost per hour: comparing quotes fairly

When you compare quotes from different agencies, line them up on the same terms. Ask each one:

  • How many direct care hours are in the estimate?
  • Are scheduling, care planning and supervisory support included, or charged on top?
  • Is there a current minimum visit length? (Ask our office what it is today.)
  • Which extras are listed separately, such as mileage, parking, shopping purchases, special staffing or holiday premiums?

We list items like mileage, parking, shopping purchases, special staffing and holiday premiums separately on the estimate, so you can see what is the care itself and what is an add-on. Bring any other quote you have and we will walk through it with you.

How billing and payment work

We generally bill by the hour. Billing comes after the service is delivered, usually weekly.

Private pay is the basic arrangement. You can pay by major credit card or ACH bank transfer.

Other options depend on your situation:

  • VA benefitsWe are an approved, contracted VA provider through TriWest, and care is available within what the VA authorizes. See our veterans page.
  • Long-term care insuranceYou pay first and then claim reimbursement from your insurer. We help you with the claim. What your policy pays depends on the policy, so check its terms with your insurer.
  • Medi-Cal and MedicareThese, including Medicare Advantage, cannot be used to pay for our care.
