Home Care Private Pay Contract: How Families Pay for In-Home Care in Pasadena
A home care private pay contract is how most families start with Right at Home Pasadena: you pay by major credit card or ACH bank transfer, and the cost is set after a free in-home assessment. Other ways to pay exist, but each has conditions, and some do not apply to this kind of care.
Below is what we accept, how we help with claims, and what families usually need to check with their insurer, the VA or Medicare. Your own policy and eligibility decide what is covered, so we never promise coverage or amounts.
Home care private pay: what we accept at a glance
Private pay is the basic way to pay for care with us. Here is how each option works.
| Way to pay | How it works with Right at Home Pasadena |
|---|---|
| Private pay | Major credit cards or ACH bank transfer |
| Long-term care insurance | You pay first, then claim reimbursement from your insurer. We help with the claim |
| VA benefits | Through TriWest, within what the VA approves |
| Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage | Cannot be used to pay for our care |
| Medi-Cal | Cannot be used to pay for our care |
If you are unsure which row fits your family, a free consultation is the place to sort it out.
We do not mix up medical and non-medical needs. Our service is non-medical home care. Nursing or treatment would come from a separate healthcare provider.
Private pay home care near me: how billing and estimates work
We send caregivers to Pasadena, West Covina, Covina and nearby San Gabriel Valley communities, as well as Los Angeles, Glendale, Azusa, Rancho Cucamonga and San Bernardino. Wherever you live in that area, billing works the same way.
- No published hourly rateYour price depends on the care you need and the hours you use. We give you a written quote after the consultation.
- The first assessment is freeA staff member visits the home to understand what your loved one and your family need.
- Billing by the hourWe generally bill by the hour, after the service is delivered, usually weekly.
- CouplesWhen two spouses are cared for together by one caregiver, a discounted rate applies. We do not publish the discount amount.
Before you agree to any private pay arrangement, ask for the estimate in writing. Check which hours and services it covers, what is billed separately, and whether the office has a current booking minimum. For more on what shapes the price, see cost and what's included.
Long-term care insurance and VA benefits
- Long-term care (LTC) insurance. With us, the family pays for care first and then files for reimbursement with the insurer. We help you with that claim. In the US, LTC policies typically start paying only after a benefit trigger, such as needing substantial help with at least two of six daily activities. Many also have an elimination period of up to 180 days. Ask your insurer which records it needs, who submits them, and what the daily limit is.
- VA benefits. We are an approved, contracted VA provider through TriWest, so care can be used within the scope the VA approves. In general, the veteran must be enrolled in VA health care, and the VA decides eligibility and the hours it authorizes. Please start by talking to your VA care team or social worker. Under VA rules, we cannot transport a veteran in our vehicles.
For veterans' details, see VA benefits home care.
Does Medicare or Medi-Cal pay for in-home care?
- Original MedicareDoes not pay for ongoing non-medical (custodial) care at home when that is the only care needed. Qualifying skilled home health is a different benefit with its own rules.
- Medicare AdvantagePlans are run by private insurers. Some offer limited extra benefits for in-home help to members with certain chronic conditions, but this varies by plan, so read your plan's Evidence of Coverage. We cannot be paid through Medicare or Medicare Advantage.
- Medi-CalIn California generally supports in-home help through county programs such as In-Home Supportive Services. These need Medi-Cal eligibility and an assessment by a county social worker. We cannot take Medi-Cal as payment.
If you have questions about care options beyond what we do, our senior in-home care page explains the service, and the FAQ covers common questions.
